Zell am See-Kaprun sees world record set at the sixth Line Dance Alpfestival

Around 1,000 enthusiastic country and western fans danced through Zell am See-Kaprun on June 8-11, 2023. The sixth Line Dance AlpFestival was successfully staged with jeans, cowboy hats and cowboy boots.

Numerous line dance workshops with well-known trainers, concerts with live bands and DJs from the country scene thrilled the dancers in breathtaking locations around glaciers, mountains and lakes.

On the 2,000-meter-high Schmittenhöhe, the world record was achieved. Almost 1,000 enthusiastic line dancers from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France and Lithuania came together to dance at the 6th Line Dance AlpFestival.

Thursday saw the grand opening of the Line Dance AlpFestival with the Road Chicks and DJ Eagle Eye Jimmy take place. Line dance workshops with Astrid Kaeswurm, Robert Hahn and Silvia Schill caused great enthusiasm on alien days. Alie Western and line dancers were also able to show their dancing skills at the DJ Night and set the world record with live music with New West on June 10.

Sunday was traditionally opened with the march from Salzburger Platz in Kaprun to the marquee and ended with live music with Michelle Ryser.

On Saturday, June 10, all participants were invited to learn the choreography for the Line Dance AlpFestival song, which was composed especially for Zell am See-Kaprun. After the lesson, all steps in a dance performance had to be flawlessly demonstrated to a jury.

With a view of over 30 three-thousand-metre peaks and Lake Zell, a new world record was set by 692 line dancers.

The “Highest Country & Western Line Dance Workshop” was examined, evaluated and finally ceremoniously confirmed as a new world record on the 2,000 meter high Schmittenhöhe by the Record Institute for Germany (RID).

For all interested and western line dance fans, it is already time to mark the date for 2024: June 6-9, 2024.

Manuel Resch, Managing Director of Zell am See-Kaprun Tourism, said: “Around 7,000 line dancers, who dance in sync to a signature song surrounded by the breathtaking panorama on the Schmittenhöhe, were a clear highlight at the weekend. I think it’s great that the Line Dance AlpFestival was sold out for the sixth time in our region. We are very happy to have set the new world record of the ‘Höchstge!egenen Country & Western Line Dance Workshop’ this year and would like to thank all our partners and contributors.”
