U.S. Ski & Snowboard formally announces Dr. Tom Hackett, MD, as the organization’s Chief Medical Officer. In his new role, Dr. Hackett will chair U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Medical Council, overseeing physician selection across all 12 sports and support the team’s medical policies. Dr. Hackett is an active physician at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO and will continue his practice alongside his new role at U.S. Ski & Snowboard.
Dr. Hackett is an internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, whose practice focuses on surgical and non-surgical treatment of knee, shoulder and elbow disorders. Throughout his career, Dr. Hackett spent many years with the U.S. Ski & Snowboard in various capacities, including head physician for the U.S. Snowboard Team for five Olympic cycles, as well as the Chair of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Emergencies in Skiing and Snowboarding Course. Outside of U.S. Ski & Snowboard, he has also held positions across the elite sports medicine space, including with multiple NBA, NHL and MLB teams.
“I am excited to continue to work with U.S. Ski & Snowboard in a new capacity,” said Dr. Hackett. “Throughout the majority of my career, I’ve been afforded the opportunity to provide medical coverage to various sports organizations and countless elite athletes. In that time, athletes were always the focus and I am looking forward to supporting the organization in a new way, while still remaining active at my practice in Vail.”
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Hackett will lead the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Council and will support Robyn Hase, U.S. Ski & Snowboard Senior Director of Sports Medicine Operations, in overseeing medical policy and procedure development for the national teams. He will also work closely with our medical team on injury surveillance and athlete health trends to identify opportunities to improve athlete health and performance outcomes.
