Aspen Mountain and Snowmass opening day

Aspen Mountain and Snowmass will open today (Thursday 23 November) for the 2023-24 season.

Aspen Mountain and Snowmass’ traditional Thanksgiving opening will feature skiing on the upper slopes of Aspen Mountain as well as Elk Camp Meadows at Snowmass. 

“This will be my first opening here at Aspen Snowmass and I couldn’t be more excited to join the team on kicking things off for another exciting winter season,” said Aspen Skiing Company CEO Geoff Buchheister. “We’ve had a couple of recent storms and the crews have been working hard making snow and getting the mountains ready for our guests.”

Aspen Mountain will open with 41 acres served by the Silver Queen Gondola for uploading and downloading from 9:00am – 3:00pm for skiers and the last upload at 3:30pm for those using a sightseeing ticket and final download at 4:00pm. The Ajax Express chair will access open runs including Dipsy Doodle, Silver Bell, Deer Park and Tortilla Flats. 

Snowmass will open with 16 acres of terrain at Elk Camp Meadows beginner’s area. The Elk Camp Gondola will be open for uploading and downloading from 9:00am – 3:30pm, with the last download at 4:00pm. The Sky Cab, Meadows chair and Magic Carpet will also be open. The Sky Cab gondola will start running at 8:00am. 

Throughout the early season, terrain will continue to open on both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass as conditions allow. For the most up-to-date terrain openings, download the Aspen Snowmass app or visit www.aspensnowmass.com/four-mountains/mountain-announcements.

Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk are scheduled to open on 9 December.

Dining 

The Sundeck will be open on Aspen Mountain, as well as Elk Camp at Snowmass for dining from 9:15am – 3:30pm. Ajax Tavern at the base of Aspen Mountain will be open, serving lunch from 11:30am – 4:00pm.

Lift Tickets & Passes

Ticket offices are currently open at the base of Aspen Mountain, Snowmass Pavilion and   Snowmass Base Village Gondola, seven days a week. Single-day lift ticket walk-up prices are currently $169 for adults and $124 for seniors, teens and child tickets. Season passes are still available for purchase. Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Two Creeks Ticket Offices will open for the season on 9 December. For the easiest pass pickup, download the Aspen Snowmass App and check “my account” to access and scan the QR code at one of the Pickup Boxes located at the base of Aspen Mountain and Snowmass.

Rental & Retail

Equipment rentals and purchases can be made at Four Mountain Sports at the base of Aspen Mountain and at the Snowmass Base Village, Snowmass Mall Outlet and new Snowmass Mall Guest Services locations, which will be open from 8:00am – 6:00pm. The newly opened Snowmass Mall Guest Services will include boot fittings, ski lockers, and equipment rentals, and lift tickets will all be available. ASPENX in Aspen’s Gondola Plaza will also be open from 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Ski & Snowboard School

Ski and Snowboard lessons will be available for booking at both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass. For more information, visit www.aspensnowmass.com/visit/lessons

Uphilling

Uphilling is permitted on Aspen Mountain and Snowmass for those with an uphill pass, uphill strap and 2023-2024 sticker, which can be picked up at any ticket office. Uphilling is not allowed during operating hours on Aspen Mountain. Uphillers should adhere to all regulations on each mountain, be aware of early season conditions, and yield to on-snow vehicles and snowmaking equipment and hoses.
