Important partnership between Ikon-Pass and Zermatt extended

Thanks to the cooperation between the Zermatt Bergbahnen and the American Ikon Pass from the Alterra Mountain Company, Zermatt has already welcomed many American guests to the foot of the Matterhorn, generating over 50,000 Ikon ski days per season. It is now clear: the partnership will be extended early and long-term. An important sign for the future.
Zermatt Bergbahnen’s partnership with the Ikon Pass – the American ski and snowboard season pass that offers access to more than 50 legendary mountain regions around the world – was first signed in winter 2019. At that time, Zermatt, as the first Ikon partner destination in Switzerland, laid the foundation for an important collaboration. Guests from America, who travel to Europe mainly from the New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Denver and San Francisco regions, appreciate the opportunity to ski or snowboard in Zermatt for 5 or 7 days with their American season pass. In the last few winter seasons, over 50,000 Ikon Skier Days were recorded in Zermatt. American guests usually stay in Europe for two to three weeks and are fascinated by the perfect railway and piste infrastructure in Zermatt, the cuisine of the mountain restaurants and the excellent hotel industry and ensure the corresponding added value. In addition, there is the well-known pricing policy for ski day passes in Europe. Because in America, a day ski ticket can quickly cost over 250 US dollars per day. “The Matterhorn is a true icon known around the world, so we are very pleased that Zermatt continues to be a member of the Ikon-Pass community,” says Matt Bowers, SVP of Marketing and Products at Alterra Mountain Company. “Ikon Pass holders can experience incredible glacier skiing, wonderful food and famous European après-ski in Zermatt.”
St. Moritz is following suit
The recently announced second Swiss Ikon destination St. Moritz ideally complements the offer for American Ikon Pass holders in Switzerland. Markus Hasler, CEO of Zermatt Bergbahnen says: “For an American guest, the two Swiss Ikon partner destinations are ideal for a two to three week ski holiday in the Swiss Alps. The destinations are easily accessible from the airport by train and are even connected via the Glacier Express. On the part of Zermatt Bergbahnen, we are convinced that the early and long-term extension of the cooperation agreement with Ikon is an important sign for the future for both the Zermatt – Matterhorn destination and for Ikon.”
