The Parsenn lifts will be in operation that weekend, then daily from 20 November. Other areas will open as snow conditions dictate. Davos is always among the first Alpine resorts to open for winter sports. This season, thanks to its snowfarming practice, the four-kilometre Flüelastrasse cross-country ski trail is to open on Friday 30 October. As a pioneer of the technique (since 2008), Davos collects snow during the preceding season, stores it under a layer of insulating – and sustainable – sawdust which preserves 70-80 per cent of its volume for use in the forthcoming season. https://www.davos.ch/en/

A less conventional hotel choice, located below Parsenn’s Weissfluhoch station at 2570m, is the Iglu-Dorf Davos Klosters. Built every year from fresh snow and ice, its 30 igloos offer overnight accommodation for up to 46 guests. Facilities include a hot tub, sauna and heated Kota hut, snowshoeing and a cool ice bar and restaurant – open from 11 am to 4 pm – for hot and cold drinks, snacks and a classic cheese fondue.
