South Lake Tahoe Tops Expedia’s 2027 Destinations of the Year After 195% Search Rise
South Lake Tahoe has been named the top destination on Expedia’s 2027 Destinations of the Year list, following a 195% year-on-year increase in traveller search interest.
The California-Nevada destination heads the ranking in Expedia’s Unpack ’27 trends report, which compares flight and accommodation searches made between 1 September 2025 and 27 July 2026 with the corresponding period a year earlier.
For skiers and snowboarders, the region offers access to Heavenly and Sierra-at-Tahoe. The destination also attracts summer visitors for kayaking and paddleboarding on Lake Tahoe, giving it appeal beyond the winter season.
Other destinations featured on Expedia’s list include Hyogo in Japan, Punta del Este in Uruguay, Sedona in Arizona, Busan in South Korea and Chichester in the UK.
The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority says the recognition provides an opportunity for tour operators and travel advisers to showcase South Lake Tahoe in their 2027 programmes, particularly to international visitors seeking both mountain sports and year-round outdoor recreation.
