blackcrows, The Unlimited Festival Recap
blackcrows, the iconic French ski brand focused on design-driven high performance ski products and apparel, just celebrated the successful comeback of its The Unlimited Festival in Chamonix, France April 5-9.
The Unlimited Festival, presented by blackcrows and supported by Montblanc Natural Resorts, Chamonix Montblanc and Anon Optics, brought the best electronic music acts from across the globe to perform in front of the most emblematic Mont Blanc range summits. The festival spans five days and is full of DJs, skiing and parties both on snow and in town. Events include Ski Sauvage with opportunities to meet and ride with blackcrows’ ambassadors, a speaker series covering an array of topics and aprés ski parties. It is far from a traditional music festival, it’s a cultural experience with a focus on ski culture and fresh new artists that bring together an exotic blend of an international community. “For me music and skiing are pretty much the same, it’s about doing things with friends and having fun,” said José Lagarellos, co-founder of the The Unlimited Festival.
The weekend was a huge success. “Unlimited high altitude. The festival was back, happy, noisy and sunny. Thanks to all for skiing and dancing so long in the snow,” said Camille Jaccoux, co-founder of blackcrows. Highlights include: the first show ever at Plan de l’Aiguille at 2317m, 7000 tickets sold across 5 different venues and 31 artists playing from all over the globe, including: Mind Against, Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig and Blond:ish. Ski Sauvage had a large daily attendance and included blackcrows’ skiers Addison Rafford, Sam Favret and Jochen Mesle who shared their Big Mountain experience and knowledge, while on the Air Carving front, Kevin Guri & Pierre Guyot took the crowd favorite Mirus Cor in freestyle slalom moves with a wild crew attending.
The event speaker series took place at Maison des Artistes and featured three talks: Balkan Express by Jochen Mesle, Why and How to Save the Glaciers by JB Bosson and Conscious Fun: How to Shift Entertainment & Tourism Towards a Greener Path by Blond:ish and Camille Guitteau. Each talk was well attended with conversations and dialogue that continued long after the talks were over.
This year, the festival made a huge sustainability push with initiatives to reduce waste, reuse cups and provide only locally sourced food and beverages. All the outdoor venues on high mountain sites were used as they came – there were no added mega stages, decorations or lights. All staff for the festival were local, there was zero printed material and the music program was coherent – so there was no need to fill different days with different crowds which reduced the number of trips to the valley.
In all, the event was a huge success. To view the blackcrows’ festival survival kit and most iconic moments: https://www.black-crows.com/us/en/c/new/collections/festival-survival-kit/.
