Mountain Hardwear Unveils Mythogen™ GORE-TEX® PRO Outerwear

Introducing the brand’s most technically engineered and protective big mountain kit, built for the ascent and descent

Mountain Hardwear, a leader in high-performance mountain apparel and equipment, just launched its most technical backcountry ski kit ever: the Mythogen™ GORE-TEX® PRO Jacket and Bib. Available now, Mythogen™ was made for adaptation in the wildest mountains and the harshest of weather.

Designed for elite snow performance, the Mythogen™ kit is the culmination of over 30 years of extensive knowledge, rigorous field testing, and a deep collaboration with the brand’s team of snowsports athletes. Mountain Hardwear’s new GORE-TEX® PRO kit will help skiers and snowboarders adapt in order to remain the wild humans they were meant to be.

The Mythogen™ kit, available in both men’s and women’s fits, is engineered to thrive in the most demanding situations, merging product DNA from Mountain Hardwear’s alpine and snow lines. It is built for maximum durability, mobility, and style—for days spent sending untouched powder lines.

“Today Mountain Hardwear is on the cutting edge, rethinking and evolving the gear we use to seek wilder paths,” said Ruth Beatty, technical outerwear design director at Mountain Hardwear. “When you zoom in and look at all the details of the Mythogen™ they really are works of art. A testament to the craftsmanship of all the people who have worked on this, whose expertise has touched the product.”

The design process was a true collaboration, with invaluable feedback provided by Mountain Hardwear’s snowsport athletes on features, design, and fit. Skiing legend and longtime Mountain Hardwear athlete Vivian Bruchez was a key partner in the kit’s development, ensuring the Mythogen™ jacket and bib lived up to an incredibly high standard.

The kit includes a full suite of features engineered for adapting to the harshest environments, including:

Shared features:

  • 3-layer 80D GORE-TEX® PRO featuring an ePE membrane, a shell fabric with 100% recycled face textiles that are waterproof, breathable, light and ultra-durable.
  • An integrated RECCO® reflector for searchability in emergency situations.
  • Multiple water-resistant zippered pockets—a combined 10 exterior pockets on the jacket and bib. All pockets are configured to work with both a climbing harness and a backpack.

Jacket features:

  • A helmet-compatible hood with three-way adjustment and snap-back feature to keep fabric low-profile when not in use.
  • Warm Call insulated phone pocket to protect battery life in extreme cold.
  • Underarm water-resistant zip vents for temperature regulation, easily accessible to open/close while wearing a pack and equipment.
  • A “Respirator Collar” with laser perforations at the collar for increased breathability.
  • Internal zip-off removable powder skirt with jacket-to-bib integration.

Bib features:

  • Full rear rainbow zipper configuration with two sliders to allow for both venting and drop-seat functionality.
  • Reinforced 600D CORDURA® kick patches that extend around the bottom hem for ultimate durability.
  • Internal snow gaiter with lace hook.

“I’ve been designing products for the snow industry for nearly 15 years, but my experience with the snowsports world goes way back. My parents had me on skis almost before I could walk,” said Will Hagna, senior designer for outerwear at Mountain Hardwear. “I love watching the style of the sport and technology evolve, but I also love knowing it all comes from a deep love for sliding on snow. It’s crucial to critique what you’ve done in the past and always think of ways to incrementally improve it. The Mythogens have inherited all the traits that have proven successful in the past and evolved them into even better ones.”

The kit is constructed with recycled 3-layer GORE-TEX® PRO featuring the ePE membrane, which is lightweight, low-bulk, durable, and made without per- and polyfluorinated substances. It delivers exceptional waterproof, windproof and breathable performance in extreme weather and rugged conditions.

“Innovation drives every new development at Gore, and the evolution of GORE-TEX® PRO technology is no exception,” said Sara Ellis, GORE-TEX® PRO product specialist and materials engineer. “For the Mythogen kit, we engineered the new fabric to deliver the no-compromise, legendary durability and weather protection that professionals expect.”

To help ensure the longevity and continued performance of the Mythogen garment, users are encouraged to wash, dry and reheat the fabric to keep it performing the way it was intended. Mountain Hardware recommends the following care instructions: https://www.gore-tex.com/support/care/outerwear.
