Mackay Mountaineering has announced its latest snowshoe trekking expeditions in the Austrian Alps and Georgian Caucasus beginning in 2026.
The expeditions provide unique itineraries that combine outstanding mountain scenery and cultural insights with the highest levels of safety planning. The treks will be led by Mackay Mountaineering managing director and founder Iain Mackay. Iain holds the highest level professional outdoor qualifications including International Mountain Leader, the only award recognised for leading trekking groups in the mountains worldwide. He has organised mountain expeditions since 1999 across the globe including the Alps, South America, Africa and Asia
Iain said: “I’ve developed a deep understanding and passion for the Austrian Alps and Georgian Caucasus through numerous expeditions and I want to share this with others. As the only company specialising exclusively in snowshoe trekking expeditions to those locations, I believe these trips offer an unrivalled experience for winter walkers and a chance to explore the wider countryside far away from the ski resorts.”
He added: “You can snowshoe through pristine Alpine forests and tranquil snowy valleys to wild summits in the Austrian Alps; trek from mountain hut to mountain hut through the spectacular alpine wilderness of Austria’s Sellrain Nature Reserve or experience the incredible scenery, culture and history of Georgia beneath Europe’s highest peaks in the Caucasus.”
Mackay Mountaineering offer fully guided itineraries of between five and 10 days. Costs for the expeditions range from £1300 to £1900.
