Salomon QST 100 Black Review

The Salomon QST 100 Black is a freeride ski for customers who want a playful mountain platform without choosing an exceptionally wide powder specialist. Its 100mm waist and rocker-camber-rocker profile give it a recognisable purpose within Salomon’s current range.

Salomon lists a full poplar wood core, full sandwich sidewalls and a Titanal binding reinforcement. Basalt superlight fibres and fibreglass also appear in the construction, while Cork Damplifier is used to manage vibration at the tip. The manufacturer positions the ski for intermediate and advanced skiers in mixed snow through to powder.

The published dimensions provide useful buying detail. Lengths run from 148 to 188cm in six sizes, all with the same 100mm waist. Stated radii increase from 13.5 to 18.5 metres across that range. At 180cm, the listed shape is 134mm at the tip and 122mm at the tail, with a 17.5-metre radius.

Winter Insight sees the strongest appeal for skiers who enjoy varied terrain and want more freedom in how they approach the mountain. The QST’s width and freeride profile make it a relevant comparison for customers moving beyond a predominantly piste-focused setup. Its intended character should be discussed alongside the skier’s normal snow conditions.

The practical qualification is that wider does not automatically mean better. A customer who spends nearly every run carving firm pistes may prefer a narrower platform. Someone regularly seeking very deep snow may want more width. The QST 100 occupies a useful position between those priorities, but the correct compromise depends on actual skiing habits.

For retailers, the size range creates opportunities to fit different customers, while also making careful selection important. Ask about the buyer’s current skis, weight, confidence and preferred turn shape. Establish whether the QST will be their only pair or an additional ski for particular trips. This skis-only version needs a separate binding decision, with boots and intended use considered together.

A useful comparison should also include the wider S/LAB QST Blank and more frontside-oriented Stance models. That helps the buyer understand the reason for choosing this ski rather than relying on the QST name alone. Where possible, a demonstration gives a practical way to assess individual compatibility.

Our verdict is that the QST 100 Black deserves a place on a creative freerider’s shortlist. Its consistent waist width, broad size range and clearly described construction give retailers tangible points to explain. Choose it around the skiing the customer regularly enjoys across the conditions encountered during their holidays.
