English Alpine Championships 2023 announced

English Alpine Championships will return to Bormio in 2023

The English Alpine Championships will return to Bormio in 2023 for its 26th year, following a three-year contract extension with Bormio Ski.

The three-year deal will see the Championships hosted in the Italian resort until 2025, giving athletes a unique opportunity to compete on the same slopes as the next round of the Olympic Winter Games in 2026.

The extension of the contract continues a long-standing partnership with Bormio Ski of 13 years, during which the resort has been welcoming hundreds of the UK’s best skiers, along with their families.

With the announcement of the new deal, the dates for the 2023 English Alpine Championships have also been confirmed. The next Alpine Champs will take place between February 9-17, 2023.

The Championships will be bigger and better next season, with an extended programme already agreed.

The 2023 competition will open earlier than in previous years with three days dedicated to FIS racing before the Children’s competition opens on the Sunday. This allows more flexibility to arrange the programme to provide the best opportunities for all the athletes, including separate races for U14s and U16s in all disciplines. The ever-popular floodlit night slalom will return, this time as a team relay which should be even more exciting than before. A full programme for the U10/U12 group is also scheduled, recognising the ever-growing demand for races for our youngest age groups. Event programme

The English Alpine Championships act as a gateway for future British alpine skiing stars and in the past have featured competitors such as World Cup alpine ski racer Dave Ryding (aka ‘The Rocket’).

Snowsport England CEO, Tim Fawke, said: “Bormio has become the home of the English Alpine Championships and it is fantastic to agree a new three-year deal to keep them in Bormio until 2025.

“The resort do a great job in preparing the slopes and the town all make us so welcome. We have some great ideas for next year to make the event even more successful.

“If you do need accommodation either as a family or club then we have a partnership with the Bormio tourism who are happy to help.”

Fabio Giacomelli, from BormioSki, said: “Over the years we’ve run together successful editions of the English Champs and so we are extremely happy to have agreed to a three-year extension of the contract, from 2023 to 2025.

“Present and recent past have been quite difficult for the mountain destinations due to the pandemic and this renewed bond between Snowsport England and Bormio Ski is definitely an encouraging sign for the ski and tourism industry.

“The English Champs are an amazing event made possible by the great work, built year after year, from Snowsport England, Bormio Ski and the support of the whole town of Bormio. We look forward to hosting further amazing editions of the English Champs!”
